The American Studies Association of Korea(ASAK) is to promote the study and understanding of American culture and society in Korea. Founded in May 1965, the ASAK is one of the most active academic associations in Korea.
It consists of approximately 450 members with serious interest in American Studies. Although most of the members are trained in English and American literature, history and politics, the Association is open to various possible apgproaches to/in American Studies.
The Association holds a number of annual events and symposia to stimulate interest in American Studies in Korea. Four of the most important annual events are the International American Studies Conference held in October, American Studies Workshop for Graduate Students held in late March, American Studies Thursday Lecture Series held every Thursday, April thru June, and American Studies Forum held three times a year during the period of June to November.
The ASAK publishes The Journal of American Studies three times (two in Korean and the other in English) a year. These events are chiefly sponsored by the US Embassy, the Fulbright Commission, and the Korea Research Foundation.
