VI. Participants' Guide

3. Conference Venue

Located to the west of the central region of the Korean Peninsula, Seoul, the capital city of South Korea, has been the nation’s cultural center for more than six hundred years. It is where Korea’s past and present come together. Seoul is South Korea's largest city and one of East Asia's financial and cultural epicenters.

Geographically, mountains, rivers and urban spaces all harmoniously combine to produce an interesting cityscape. The Han River runs across the city, dividing it into the north side and the south side. The divide is more than geographical. The north bank houses the heart of old Seoul, while the south bank gave rise to the by now famous Gangnam district.

Seoul National University is located in southwest of Seoul, surrounded by Mountain Gwanak. It is the oldest national university in South Korea. The University was originally established in Dongsung-dong, north of the river, in 1946, and moved to its current location in 1976. It is now a community of more than 30,000 members, consisting of sixteen colleges, ten graduate schools, and various research and educational institutes. The IASA 7th World Congress will take place at the Hoam Faculty House Convention Center within the Gwanak campus.
